April 23, 2018 – At approximately 8:45 this morning, Deputy Baldwin encountered a male acting suspiciously in front of the Wray High School. The male, identified as 50-year old Scott Brunswig of Wray, was flailing his arms and yelling. Deputy Baldwin contacted Brunswig in order to see if there was some sort of problem. Upon contact, Brunswig suddenly attempted to strike Deputy Baldwin in the face with a closed fist and took off running towards the school. Deputy Baldwin immediately radioed to the WY Communications Center to have the school put on lockdown.
Sergeant Thomson, and Deputies Molcyk and Kron arrived on scene and attempted to apprehend Brunswig. Brunswig continued to violently fight with the deputies causing them to suffer minor injuries. The deputies were required to use less than lethal force in the form of beanbag shotgun rounds and Taser in order to place Brunswig in custody.
After being transported to the Wray Community District Hospital for a medical clearance, Brunswig was booked into the Yuma County Jail on the following charges: 2nd Degree Assault on a Peace Officer (3 counts) (a class 4 felony), Resisting Arrest (a class 2 misdemeanor), Interference of an Educational Institution (a class 1 misdemeanor), and Disorderly Conduct (a class 1 petty offense).
